FRC Overview
What is FRC?
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics program where students design, build, and program industrial-sized robots to compete in a themed game each year. Teams also engage in fundraising, branding, outreach, and teamwork — all within a 6-week build period. It’s often called the “Varsity Sport for the Mind.”

What do you do?
• Build Team — work on mechanical, electrical, or CAD design
• Programming Team — code in Java or Python to control the robot
• Media & Outreach — design graphics, run social media, produce videos
• Business & Logistics — help with fundraising, budgeting, and planning
• Strategy & Scouting — analyze matches and develop game strategies
• Be a leader — organize projects, lead a subteam, or mentor new members
What do I need to know to be on FRC?
There are no technical prerequisites. FRC is open to high school students, typically grades 9–12. No experience is necessary — we provide training in all areas, including programming, engineering, scouting, and business.
What does the team do?
• Build a robot from scratch based on the annual game
• Program the robot to complete tasks autonomously and with driver control
• Design and CAD the robot using industry-standard software
• Fundraise to support travel, registration, and materials
• Promote STEM in the community through outreach
• Create media and branding to represent the team professionally
• Travel to competitions to put their robot and teamwork to the test
