About Our Team
Iowa City Robotics was formed to support the FIRST Robotics Competition Team 167, The Children of the Corn. Team 167 is the oldest, active high school robotics team in the state of Iowa. It pairs STEM industry professionals with students from the greater Iowa City area to design, build, and program a 125-pound robot in roughly eight weeks. In addition to learning engineering skills, the members of 167 learn professionalism and communication through community events. Our Junior Bots camps and FIRST LEGO League team, The Corn Poppers, are among the ways we connect with K-12 students in our area.
About FIRST
FIRST® is a nonprofit organization meaning "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." The FIRST Robotics Competition is a high school robotics competition featuring teams from all over the world. Students work to build a robot in a six weeks and compete in competitions of about 60 teams. Each year, teams are challenged to "raise funds, design a team brand, hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors." Volunteer mentors guide teams of students to compete in regional competitions and attempt to qualify for the world championships.
