We are Iowa City Robotics—the oldest high school robotics team in the state of Iowa. Made up of just over 30 students and 6 adult mentors from local companies and schools, our team develops engineering, business, and teamwork skills by participating in the FIRST® Robotics Competition. In this competition, we design, build, and program a 125 pound robot in roughly six weeks to compete against other teams from all over the country.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our team works to encourage STEM careers for our members. In addition, we do outreach in the Iowa City community to foster STEM learning. This includes visiting elementary schools, running booths at community events, and holding summer camps for younger students.
Without generous sponsorship from local businesses, our team could not survive. Kirkwood Community College provides workspace for us at the Kirkwood Regional Center in Coralville. In addition, several local companies support our team by donating money, time, or products.
