Our Story
We're creating the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers through accessible, robotics education.
Iowa City Robotics is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides accessible, hands-on STEM opportunities for students throughout Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, and surrounding communities. Through competitive robotics teams, summer camps, workshops, and community outreach, we help students build technical, business, leadership, creativity, and teamwork skills.
Our programs create a pathway for students to explore robotics from elementary school through high school. Iowa City Robotics operates Junior Bots educational programs, FIRST LEGO League teams, and FRC Team 167, Children of the Corn, while also providing financial support and outreach opportunities to independently operated FIRST Tech Challenge teams. As a community-based organization, our programs welcome students from schools across the area rather than serving only one district or school.
We work with schools, libraries, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations to expand access to STEM education and create meaningful opportunities for students to learn, lead, and serve their community.
Why Corn?
When Team 167 first started, they chose the name Children of the Corn not for the horror movie, but as a nod to the Iowa roots that have always been at the heart of our team.
As Iowa City Robotics has grown, we’ve kept that Corn Kid spirit alive with our younger teams: The Corn Patch Kids, Mini Corn Dogs, The Corn Poppers, and Kernel Coders. Together, they make up a growing family of corn-loving teams, all connected by our signature Kelly green and yellow spark.
Each team brings its own personality, creativity, and take on what it means to be part of the Iowa City Robotics family. From our youngest Mini Corn Dogs to our high school Children of the Corn, we’re proud to keep growing the next generation of robotics students, one kernel at a time.
